Vicente “Vic” Benig

Vicente, Ka Enting, Mr. Benig, Attorney Vic, Brud, Paré, Lolo, Tiyo Enteng, Dad, Mahal, this 5’4” man was a giant force of nature, beloved by everyone who knew him. Quick-witted, he never stopped making people laugh with his humor and jokes. His kind heart was bigger than the Philippine Sea where he was born on an island smaller than 3 miles long, in 1937, nine months before WWII broke. He was patriarch and chef, bringing his family together with his delicious dishes, like lumpia, fried milkfish, and Kare Kare. His generosity knew no bounds, supporting family and strangers alike, never expecting anything in return. Vicente played basketball from grade school into his mid-40s, when he stopped playing because he had enjoyed too many steak and egg plates at breakfast diners. He passionately watched Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls and da Bears. His leadership and team building skills helped to found the Chicago Philippine Lions Club and create Philippine Independence Week, annually celebrated in Chicago for over 50 years for which he won a lifetime service achievement award in 2022. He passed down his values of family, good food, humor, kindness, service, generosity, and Chicago sports fever to his four children, one niece-daughter, and 17 grandchildren. At the age of 70, Attorney Vic with his wife, Dr. Cora Benig, started MTC Academy in his hometown of Tabaco City, Albay, Philippines. He was dedicated to his students, hoping to provide them with the education to give them a competitive edge in the tight job market of the Philippines.

Vicente was preceded in death by his parents, Leoncia and Teodulo; siblings Adoracion, Salvador, Domingo, and Rodrigo.

Vicente is survived by his siblings Novelita, Nelly, Corazon, Teodulo Jr, and Asuncion.
