Happy Fourth of July!

Can you believe that it is already July? Personally, I can’t believe that a little over half of the year has passed by. I am sure most of us are relieved to know that Illinois has moved to phase four of the reopening plan. Larger groups of people are able to gather, restaurants can open with limited occupancy, and many places of entertainment such as movie theaters are re-opening. I think that for all of us, it provides a sense of normalcy which also provides a sense of comfort. As we adjust to our new “normal” of wearing masks and maintaining appropriate distance between one another, we should celebrate this Fourth of July with caution. Let’s hear from our four featured college students for this month! If you’d like to be featured, please email me at tejerokayla@gmail.com .

Jeremy Dela Cruz says, “After graduating I want to get into the fashion/photography industry making it as my career. I want to network with many people and work with big name companies and people who are famous and well-known. I am in the process of working my way in that industry, and I want to be the best photographer that I can be.”

Angelica Cruz says, “As a Filipino-American college student, I am determined to reach my goals of being a part of the fashion industry and to become a successful fashion designer from the Philippines. I intend to meet people who have the same interests as I do to create bridges and connections that will help me achieve my goals now and in the future.”

Joemari Felarca Alcones says, “I hope to earn my Nursing degree in a timely manner and to be an inspiration to the Filipino American community. I want people to know that poverty is not an excuse for failure. In the Philippines I grew up in poverty, which is why moving to the United States gave me determination to work hard.”

Marijo Orbito says, “Ever since I was young, nursing has always been the career I wanted to pursue. I hope to grow more knowledgeable in the fi eld of Nursing while also building the foundation for my future. I hope to graduate and fulfi ll my goals of becoming a Neonatal Nurse. Working with newborns and infants is something I am passionate about, and I have complete faith and trust that God will guide me in my path to success.”
