The Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO), in partnership with the Consulate General, hosted an “Info Session to the 2017 FYLPRO Immersion Program” on 29 June 2017 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Consulate General. The program also included a farewell reception for Consul General Generoso DG Calonge who will end his stint in Chicago by the end of August.

A brainchild of then Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the United States of America, Jose L. Cuisia and his wife, Victoria, the 6th FYLPRO Immersion Program in the Philippines is scheduled on 08-14 October 2017. Its main objective is to provide an opportunity for the delegates to meet and discuss with senior officials and policy makers issues and insights about community, business, and governance in the Philippines.

Featured FYLPRO Batch 2016 Alumni Mark Calaguas and Jhett Tolentino presented their immersion experience to the audience and invited their fellow Filipino-Americans to submit their application before the scheduled deadline of 07 July 2017.

Mark Calaguas is an attorney at the Chicago office of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and a founding board member of the National Filipino American Lawyers Association.

Jhett Tolentino of New York, on the other hand, is a 3-time Tony Award and Grammy Award winning theater producer. Last December 2016, President Rodrigo R. Duterte honored him as one of The Outstanding Young Men and Women of the Philippines (TOYM) at the Malacañan Palace.

Mr. Jan Paul Ferrer also shared his great experiences and projects after joining FYLPRO that enhanced the vibrancy and dynamism between the Philippines and the Filipino-American community in the United States, especially in the Midwest.

Former FYLPRO delegates Lakhi Siap and Abbey Eusebio were also in attendance for possible partnership with the attendees.

The event concluded with the presentation of the plaque of appreciation to Consul General Generoso DG Calonge by the FYLPRO Alumni and the Fil Am community acknowledging his work in furthering productive interaction among and between Filipinos.

In the tradition of Filipino community gatherings, photo opportunities and a light reception capped the evening’s event. #
