In the absence of this year’s traditional assembling of Chicago’s American Vietnamese community for the solemn remembrance of the April 1975 Fall of Saigon, known as “Black April”, elements of the American Legion 9th District and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 311, and friends came together at Lake Opeka in Des Plaines, Illinois to share some of their memories of Vietnam. The experiences of those in attendance spanned most of the war years including the last day during the evacuation of Saigon.
