Magnificent May

By: Kayla Tejero
This month is noted for beauty, flowers, and beginning of gardening and festivities. As the weather becomes warmer, I see all of my neighbors busting out their lawn mowers, gardening hats and garden tools. I see families strolling around the neighborhood, kids outside riding their bikes and or at the park. In my mom’s garden, I can’t help but notice the beautiful blooming of her tulips. I believe that it symbolizes growth and the literal birth of a new season! That is the beauty of life, every season has its cycle; a story to tell, and an empty canvas waiting for all the colors to create a beautiful picture of all human experiences. I believe that this can apply to life. We may feel down when things don’t go our way, or even when we are experiencing the “lows” of life. What we must understand is that there is always the opportunity to pick ourselves, take the dust off and start again. This can especially apply to the younger generation that will make up our future, our college students and graduates! Young people make up their minds about their future. They go to the direction they want to follow. Let us hear from our four features for the month of May.
Jeseriel says, “As an Asian American college graduate, I aspire to overcome the stigma with community college. Contrary to popular belief, completing my prerequisites at a community college still enabled me to transfer those credits to a university and attain a Bachelor’s degree in four years. This decision left me with no college debt and provided me with financial freedom now as a working professional. For that reason, I strongly encourage students, especially those who are still unsure of their future careers, to explore what their community college can offer.”
Maile says, “As an Asian American college student, I want to accomplish gaining various skills and knowledge in order to have a successful career. My hope is that I find something that I love doing, while also staying grounded in my culture and volunteering to help others in various communities.”
Terrence says, “As an Asian American College student, I want to be able to create new connections with people that will be guiding me throughout my college studies. Of course, I want to continue my work as a musician while studying. And I’m hopeful that I’ll do my best to study hard while trying to enjoy what this new life will bring me.”
Kevin says, “I immigrated to the United States back in December of 2017 from the Philippines. I am a Computer Science major and a Cybersecurity minor who plans to study and work as hard as I can to be a Software engineer at a big tech company (or possibly even start my own), in order to provide for and help my family and all of those who have helped me along my journey.”
