Reminiscences on Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is not only about remembering America’s forebears in Plymouth. It devolves pausing to remember the less fortunate among us.

Thanksgiving goes beyond the fourth Thursday of November pause/salute, as we continue to be thankful for and reminisce about the opportunity to live in this beautiful and bountiful Promised Land, as immigrants from a third world country, specifically our group of people, the Filipinos from the Philippines.

Thanksgiving offers the warm embrace of inclusiveness, particularly for many people with families and faiths rooted in other lands, just like us. No other holidays, Christmas, Labor Day, Fourth of July, has so great a capacity to make them feel American, but Thanksgiving.

This Thanksgiving, we will pause to remember all that we have to be thankful for. The thought of being able to gather together with the people we love most is something that many of us have taken for granted, but we can always restart and reignite our hearts to be gracious and thankful for the graces and bounties that we receive.

Thanksgiving is at the heart, more than parades, or football. It is about shared bounty and shared humanity.

Whether we celebrate Thanksgiving by serving traditional fares of pumpkin pie, pudding, and turkey with gravy and dressings, or the Filipino fares of adobo or relleno chicken, or roasted lechon (pig), or any kinds of concoction on the menu, we say first our gratefulness and thanks for all the blessings of the Almighty God.

Here, at Via Times, and from the Via Times/CPRTV family, we have so much to be thankful for. We are so blessed to be part of this amazing team, and we are all blessed to live and work in this community, and earn everyone’s trust each day with the media dedication and service that we offer that envelops our community’s knowledge, enjoyment, and camaraderie. Mabuhay tayong Pilipino!###
