The Flores de Mayo and Santa Cruzan are two of the most awaited events held in the Philippines during May. Santacruzan honors Queen Helena of Constantinople as she finds the True cross hence the festival’s name. Santacruzan or ‘Holy Cross.’ Flores de Mayo on the other hand translates to ‘Flowers of May’ in which during this festival, flowers are offered before the Blessed Virgin Mary as a sign of love, affection, and veneration. This is in commemoration and reminiscent of our Lady of Fatima apparition to the three children that took place on May 13, 1917.
October is a very special month for our Blessed Virgin Mary as it is the month where we honor the Holy Rosary. This year’s theme holds much relevance and significance to our current situation which is: “Mary’s pure heart is our guide and inspiration to grow in grace in these challenging times.” With this, The Society of the Beloved Disciple saw it fit to hold the Santacruzan and flower offering to our Beloved Mother on this month hence the idea of calling it Flores de Oktubre. We venerate the many titles our Holy Mother holds while offering flowers as a sign of our love and affection on the month where we celebrate the Holy Rosary, where we celebrate Her.
