cover1a
There’s something about the music in the 50’s that is elusive. Rock and roll, doo-woop, pop, swing, rhythm and blues, country, blues and rockabilly dominated and defined the decade’s music. On August 28, 2016, the 50’s MUSICAL WITH THE SELECTIONS FROM GREASE Concert took us down memory lane. The sold out concert was held at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Schiller Park. A crowd of over 350 Chicagoans trooped to the hotel to reminisce and celebrate the glory of this era. Chicago’s very own and multi-talented talents were featured in the luncheon show. Topbilled by Chaz Patron, Hall of Famer-Entertainer of the Year in 2015 with Edizon Dayao, 2004 Hall of Famer in Entertainment and Haide Masangcay, a spectacular local Chicago talent and DJ.
Daisy Patron, better known as Chaz Patron was born and raised in Manila. She’s  a freelance Singer/Vocalist and Event Coordinator. Singing has always been her passion. Chaz is blessed with a beautiful voice, her expression is soulful and she can turn simple melodies into symphonies and convey a gigantic world of emotion in a single note. She started singing at an early age of 10, where she trained and confidently joined competitions and successfully won most of them. Spreading her wings, Chaz started as a lead vocalist with a band who performed at Dubai and Abi-Dhabi Sheraton Hotel in 1992. Her unique expressivity and versatility in singing earned her to be the lead female singer of a quartet, trio and a duet capturing the heart of audiences at Hilton Shilla Hotel, Intercontinental, Hyatt and Lotte World Hotels.
Chaz emerged as one of the top-notch singers in five-star and famous hotels in Asian countries and this golden opportunity opened many doors for her. Chaz was privilege to share the stage with famous American singers in the likes of George Benson, Diana Krall, Laura Fygi and many more. The beauty of her voice touches her fans and followers in a place that was as personal as the place from which the voice has issued. She’s one superb singer by any measure. Chaz also recorded songs for TV commercials in the Philippines. In 1999, she joined Seoul International Singing Contest, where she won 1st place. Chaz continued to share her gift of singing by serving the church as a Cantor and a choir member until Cupid snatched her away from music, displacing her passion for music by her love for her family. She’s a proud mother of beautiful girls, Cece, Clarize, Crisza, Chazzy Angel and a loving wife to Jhun Patron.
In 2008, Chaz became visible to the Filipino-American Community in Chicago by participating and volunteering her time with different organizations such as Philippine Independence Week Committee (PIWC), JDC Rainbow Foundation and Dance Lovers Club (DLC) of Chicago. She shared and contributed her talents for a great cause and to make a difference. Chaz was crowned as the DLC Queen 2015 and served as the Overall Chairperson of the DLC Coronation and Santacruzan event. In addition, she’s also performing with Edizon Dayao in various performances in Chicago as “THE CHANZON DUO”.
If there’s one list for Chicago musicians who are very passionate with their craft, Edizon Dayao is undoubtedly on top of this list. He’s a full time entertainer in the Chicago, Wisconsin and Indiana areas. Performing at an average of 620 shows annually, primarily within the senior market and private functions as well as in various Filipino organizations. Edizon’s weekly appearances at various retirement and healthcare facilities have touched many lives, refreshed spirits and rekindled lost memories and brought joy to the hearts of so many elderlies. Edizon is trained from Yamaha School of Music and hailed from Devry Chicago.
DJ Haidee Masangcay joined the ChanZon Duo in the successful 50’s Musical. She’s a familiar face in the Chicago community as she has been singing as an opening  act for several live concerts of Regine Velasquez, Lani Misalucha and Society of Seven. Her incredible vocal ability and winning smile charmed her fans and made her standout in all her past shows and performances. It was evidently showcased in the 50’s Musical as she captured the hearts and smiles of the audience. Entertainment was non-stop from the time it kicked-off until the end. Chicago entertainers in the likes of John Mari Bamba, Willy Lucas, Bert Johnson, Jerry Masangcay and Marilou Dichosa pumped the room with their own renditions of wonderful songs from the 50’s. Their spectacular performances raised the bar for opening acts.
Compiling the list of breathtaking acts in the musical, the phenomenal performances of the dancers, which are composed of Flor Castil, Josie “Neneng” Emnace, Fae Paulino, Frennie Deloria, Rose Granzon Lee, Mark Pineda, Laurence Trayvilla and Robert Chavez were surely a big hit. The audience can’t help but stomp and jump on their feet, and eventually joined them in the dance floor. The special performance from the award-winning dance duo, Rizza Antonov and Greg Rykowski was one of the highlights of the show. The back-up singers for Chaz, her beautiful daughters, Cece and Crisza as well as KC Afante’s voices complimented the versatile featured singer. Edizon’s distinct and brilliant music arrangement influenced the group’s variation and versatility in sound. The successful show was directed by May Buenafe Afante, 2001 Hall of Famer in Dance and Entertainment. Randy Famacion served as the emcee. A complete total package of remarkable entertainers, 50’s Musical did not disappoint. It was a massive success and a repeat performance is a must!
