MARIA THERESA TAGHAP CUMBA – YOUNG ACHIEVER

marites cumbaDr. Maria Theresa Taghap Cumba, lovingly referred to as, Marites, is the daughter of Dr. Cesar and Lilia Cumba of Morris, Illinois. Marites is the youngest of four: Maybelyn Cumba Rock MBA, Dr. Marissa Cumba Carmody, and Atty. Mark Caesar Cumba.

She was a straight A student at Morris Community High School in Morris, Illinois and graduated salutatorian. She was the Class President from 1993-1998 and Student Body President from 1998-1999. She participated in show and competitive choir, performed in musicals, was a member of Thespian, Interact, Spanish, and M Club, and competitively danced on the state championship dance team.

For her undergraduate and pre-medical training, she attended Northwestern University as a Radio, Television and Film major. She loves traveling and had attended summer classes at Harvard University, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and University of Las Vegas Nevada (UNLV) before signing on to Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan for her Surgical Residency. She completed a Fellowship in Critical Care at Henry Ford Hospital, where she is now chief resident and will graduating in 2015, God willing.
