Dozens of Chicago children are at risk of sleeping on the floor without beds as their families make the life-changing transition out of homelessness. Every year, Humble Design Chicago provides up to 300 mattresses and beds to children ages 3-12, giving a fresh start to many parents, especially single moms who are escaping domestic violence, job loss or housing challenges.
With rising costs and rising need in Chicago, mattress donations are down and previously full warehouse space sits empty.
This National Sleep Week (March 10-1/6) when the focus is on the connection to good sleep and wellbeing, Humble Design Chicago Director Trish Davies can speak to what impact the lack of beds is having on local kids and how the community can take action to give them the right start in their new homes. Data shows that with that support, less than 1% of Humble Design clients return to homelessness after one year, compared with the national statistic of 50%.
Let us know if you are interested in speaking to Trish, visiting the warehouse space to see the need, or shadowing a reveal day to capture the emotion of the difference these beds make for Chicago families.
