Young Filipino American owners of Umaga Bakehouse, Robert and Kissel Fagaragan, opened the bakery recently at 4703 W. Foster Avenue across from Seafood City, a popular huge Filipino grocery store. The name “Umaga” means “morning” in Tagalog, reminding many native Filipinos eating their hot “pandisals” first thing in the morning. A native deligh!
Expect favorite pastries, such as ensaymade, empanada, and other offerings like halo halo, pancit Malabon, and other “ulams,” Kissel says, during her exclusive interview on CPRTV with Veronica. The Fagaragans are hopeful and happy with their first business venture, “honoring the techniques and traditions of Filipino baking while placing them in a contemporary space that’s appealing to our customers.”
