Kali and Randy Adorable A Winter Wedding

It’s not the usual month popular for weddings, but then again, the union of Kali Mae Weber, daughter of Sharlene and Lon Weber, to Randy Adorable, Ray and Angie Adorable’s first born, was not your usual love story either. They met fresh out of school, Kali, born and raised in Arizona, and Randy, a native Chicagoan, studied conveniently at Arizona State University where mutual friends introduced them to each other. They became a couple in 2005, were apart for a year when Kali moved to San Francisco for a year until Randy asked her to join him back in Chicago in 2006. They lived together for seven years before Randy presented Kali with his grandmother’s ring and asked her to be his wife.

Kali described their relationship as being “great and wonderful,” saying that getting along and communicating well with Randy all those years just helped build a strong foundation until they were both ready to commit to married life. After Randy’s no fuss, no frill proposal “at a street corner” in Chicago, as Kali humorously described it, Kali accepted and soon, plans went underway for a “huge, fun party for their friends and family to enjoy while celebrating their union.”

This was how their winter wedding came to be—a good reason for their kin and brethren to come together as one big, happy family, some coming from Kali’s hometown of Arizona, while others traveled from other states just to witness this special time in their lives. After all, Kali knew that they were eventually going to be husband and wife, long before Randy realized that he did, too, and in the end, their love showed when they exchanged vows in front of people who loved and cared for them, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, college and work friends, folks that they have known all their lives.

This all happened last January17 of this year, at the Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake, a historic former dairy farm structure built in 1885 and has now become one of top 100 wedding venues in Illinois. Family and friends of the bride and groom pitched in to decorate the rustic setting with flowers and lights, and the silo was conveniently converted into the bar area where the natural winter air kept the drinks ice cold and ready for their guests.

After a touching and emotional exchange of vows administered by the minister, the DJ opened the dance floor and the caterers welcomed guests to two long tables of sumptuous food, while the silo bartenders made sure that everyone had a drink or cocktail in their hands. Convenient to the whole affair were shuttle buses to and from the nearby local hotels, therefore making it safer and saner to consume special libations made especially for Kali and Randi, my favorite being the cucumber-infused vodka on ice.

All in all, it was a night of dancing, drinking, and, yes, great fun as the newlyweds wanted it to be. With snow covering the ground surrounding the big, beautiful barn, the love and support of their families was exactly the right stuff that warmed everyone’s hearts and put a smile on familiar faces, as we all wished the new Mr. and Mrs. Randy Adorable a bright, bountiful, and happy union all the days of their lives.

Congratulations Randy and Kali—all the best! (Kali Mae is currently finishing up her Pharmacy degree at the University of Illinois in Chicago, while Randy will be graduating with a degree in elementary education at the College of Du Page in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.)
