April Showers Bring May Flowers

By: Kayla Tejero
Happy April! We start off the month with one of the most fun days of the year, and that is April Fools. It’s a day to pull harmless jokes on our friends. Towards the end of the month, we celebrate earth day. Let us be grateful for our planet and what Mother Nature has to offer each and every day. It is important for us to take good care of mother earth, as we only have one.
As I write this article we also approach one of my favorite holidays, and that is Easter. I love going to church, decorating eggs, and or going egg hunting. It’s a holiday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Overall, it’s a fun holiday to spend with good company. This time of the year marks a time of spiritual renewal, growth and new beginnings. It is a time for new hope and excitement. This can be symbolized through the blooming of spring flowers and blossoming of nature. Embracing the freshness that April brings is a miracle in itself. I love the warm, sometimes rainy days, and the snow melting. While the weather can be so unpredictable, it truly lives up the saying “April showers bring May flowers.” For many of us this month is just any ordinary month of the year. But if we feel deeper on the changes around us, one can say that life definitely brings surprises everyday. One thing about life is that it does not stop for anyone. We have to keep going! For our students, this means one more month until graduation. Let us hear from our four features of the month!
Kayla says, “As an Asian American graduating college student planning to become a pediatrician, I want to provide care that is not only compassionate but also culturally understanding. My research on music therapy and emotional regulation has inspired me to focus on supporting children’s emotional health alongside their physical development. I also hope to challenge stereotypes around Asian American parent–child dynamics and the child–doctor relationship by creating spaces where families feel heard, valued, and able to communicate openly. Ultimately, I want to grow into someone who leads with empathy, gives back, and helps make opportunities more accessible for the next generation.”
Janisse says, “I want to be successful in my career and stay strong not only for myself, but for my family. It’s very important to me to remember where I came from and the sacrifices my family has made. I want to represent my culture in everything I do, because it is my foundation. I also hope to inspire others by showing that you can do anything, no matter where you come from.”
Neil says, “With my Business Administration Degree & Professional Sales Certificate, I hope to bring success, growth, & empathic passion wherever I go. With my manager career lined up, I hope to be the exception in a sea of uncaring, unenthusiastic management. My friends, colleagues, & family are all rooting for me to succeed & I’m eternally grateful for their support! I am ready to join the next generation of leaders as a proud Asian American!”
Danielle says, “As an Asian-Canadian college student, I want to be able to advocate for people’s voices and freedom through my career. As a future law student, I hope to build a career that drives meaningful change whether it is in court; or in my life. Through student leadership, I aim to continue fostering inclusive spaces where people feel seen and heard. Overall, I want to be confident in my ability to be a compassionate and confident leader, & be someone who uplifts others now and in the future.”
